James Buchanon Photograph Collection

James Buchanon Photograph Collection - circa 1946

Includes 46 black and white family snapshots of various sizes. The photos illustrate life in Hawaii circa 1946, including many images of military men at leisure at the beach, with women, and with automobiles. Five postcard photos show Hilo and the Naniloa Hotel.

Apparently Mr. Buchanon was in Hilo on April 1, 1946, to witness the tsunami as the collection includes some unusual water photos and numerous shots of damage to buildings and roadways.

Seven photos document a large military parade in Honolulu which included male and female units as well as some civilian groups.

Gift from Ilana J. Landes, 2008
