Anonymous Photograph Album (1937-1938)

Anonymous Photograph Album, 1937-1938

Compiled by an unknown Army serviceman, probably associated with the 64th Coast Artillery, U.S. Army, at Fort Shafter, Honolulu, in 1937 and 1938. 14 pages of black-and-white photos taken in Hawaii include four photographic postcards and a few images of identified people. Also included are seven hand-tinted souvenir photos of landscape scenes. Black-and-white images include the Kodak Hula Show, Hawaiian dancers, various Island people, and landmarks on Oahu.

Military-related photos include anti-aircraft guns, a two-engine airplane, troops in transit, and individual military men in uniform. A pamphlet from the Sixty-fourth Coast Artillery U.S. Army Organization Day June 3rd and the album front cover are also included. The front of the album cover is decorated with a hand-tinted photograph of hula dancers. The inside of the cover holds the handwritten title, a photo of a woman in Hawaiian costume, and a small photograph of the man who probably compiled the collection.

The photographs in the album are approximately 4.5 inches by 2.75 inches.
