Baker, from Rockford, Illinois, lived and worked in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and Eureka, California, prior to moving to Hawaii in 1910 (having visited the Islands in 1908). He was active as a photographer until 1959 and produced thousands of photographic images as black-and-white prints, postcards, books, and glass plates.
